Snowy Tuesday

I woke up this morning and it had snowed but the worst part was it was 15 degrees and breezy. I couldn't drag myself on the treadmill again so I braved the cold with Jeter. It wasn't bad except when I ran east into the wind. We ended up with 9 miles. I couldn't tell if I felt good or not because I was so cold. Even with Vaseline on my face my nose and cheeks were still freezing. The cold didn't effect Jeter at all as he was his usual boucy self! I am so ready for spring!

I did a 21 miler on Saturday for my long run and it actually felt really good. I think my body is so used to doing long mileage on the weekends as I haven't done less than a 17 miler each week since October. The first 6 were difficult because it is so dark and desolate and I don't have Jeter to keep me company. I joined CRC after 12 miles and everything seemed to click. What a great group they are - such nice people.

Yesterday I did an 11 miler at a little over 8 minute pace on the treadmill. I'm going to try to take it a little easier this week to try to give my legs a break. Last week I hit 69 miles which is my all time high but my legs are definitely feeling more tired.

Thunderstorming Tuesday!

I did 11 miles yesterday morning with the Newton Hills simulation:

miles 0-5 7.6mph @ 1% incline
miles 5.0-5.7 7.6mph @ 3% incline
miles 5.7-6.7 7.7mph @ 1% incline
miles 6.7-7.0 7.2mph @ 6% incline
miles 7.0-8.4 7.7mph @ 1% incline
miles 8.4-8.8 7.5mph @ 4% incline
miles 8.8-9.4 7.7mph @ 1% incline
miles 9.4-9.8 6.8mph @ 6% incline
miles 9.8-11.0 7.7mph @ 1% incline

It kicked my butt! I guess the week off of doing hills made my legs a little lazy. Or maybe I'm feeling a little sluggish from the 20 miler on Saturday. At least I didn't have any pain in my shins! It was another Monday at work and busy as can be.

Today I got up early and did an easy 10 miler on the treadmill because there were thunderstorms heading our way. The last thing I need is to be caught in a thunderstorm with a labradoodle! I think poor Jeter is in withdrawal as he hasn't run in a week. The 10 miler this morning was at an average 8:20 pace and felt really good and easy. It rained all day and was almost 60 degrees.......crazy Ohio weather!

Long Run Fun!

I tested my shins yesterday for the first time in 4 days yesterday by doing an easy 10 miler on the treadmill yesterday morning. It was great and I had no shin pain. HIP HOORAY! Oh, it was bliss running again and I feel like myself again. This morning it was 28 degrees and a little windy but I was itching to run. I did 12 miles on my own and then another 8 with CRC for a 20 miler. It felt amazingly good. I had no pain in my shins and my legs are barely tired at all. Think that calls for a red wine night!

Elliptical Monotony

I'm trying to be extra conservative so no running for me today. I woke up and lifted and did core work this morning and then did 75 minutes on the elliptical. Wow, is that boring. No shin pain today but I think I'll hold off until Friday to run. I'm feeling a little depressed not being able to run. My body didn't feel right going to work. I felt sluggish and irritable. Lord help my husband and children if I can't run.

Shin splint Monday

I got on the treadmill this morning at 4:30am intending to do an 11 mile hill run. 2.2 miles into my run my left shin started to hurt. UGH! After having a stress fracture in 1992 before the New York City Marathon and having to take off 4 weeks I'm not willing to push it before Boston. I think I'll take a couple of days off and do the elliptical and try later this week for an easy run. I have been averaging 65 miles a week and I think my body is trying to tell me something. I bought a new pair of Mizuno Wave Nirvana 4s today because I had about 520 miles on my old shoes. We'll see if that helps.

12 weeks to Boston!
